*BACKGROUND*

On November 29th, elections were carried out amidst defacto military rule in
Honduras. For four and a half months the country has suffered media
censorship, widespread human rights violations, brutality against women and
the LGBT community, and targeted assasinations of resistance leaders. Though
Barack Obama initially condemned the coup which ousted
democratically-elected president Manuel Zelaya, his administration expressed
no qualms with these abuses, and has recognized the farce elections.

With this we witness the inauguration of a new model: overturn the leftist
and replace him with the oligarch. So long as elections are realized,
regardless of the conditions, the US will support you. This is a betrayal of
the sovereignty of Latin American, proving to the world that the superpower,
even under Obama, will support military coups and mass brutality so long as
they bolster US interests.

Professor Noam Chomsky, veteran commentator on Latin American affairs, will
discuss the coup in Honduras, and what it means to the hemisphere. Join us
in this evening of solidarity with the Honduran resistance.

>From the Kendall T stop (Red line), head one and a half blocks west (away
from Boston and the Longfellow bridge) to Ames Street, turn left, and
continue until just past the 30-60-90 triangle building (Building 66; 25
Ames St.). Turn right, walk past three buildings on your right (66, 56, then
16), and enter east side of the "Infinite Corridor." Turn right and proceed,
then descend stairs on your right and continue northward. Continue northward
through corridor to reach 26-100.

Or, from MIT's main entrance at 77 Massachusetts Avenue, enter and proceed
all the way down the "Infinite Corridor." Turn left before reaching the
door. Proceed and descend the stairs on your right, continuing northward.
Continue northward through corridor to reach 26-100.

*Chomsky Sobre Honduras: Qué significa para la democracia aqui y en Latino
América*

*ANTECEDENTES*

El pasado Domingo, 29 de Noviembre se llevaron a cabo elecciones en Honduras
bajo las leyes de un gobierno de facto.

Por más de cuatro meses y medio, el país ha estado sufriendo con medios de
prensa censurados, violaciones de derechos humanos, violencia brutal en
contra de las mujeres y el bloque de resistencia y asesinatos de varios
lideres de la resistencia.

Mientras el presidente de los Estados Unidos Barack Obama inicialmente
condenaba el golpe de estado, al mismo tiempo se expulsaba del país al
presidente electo democráticamente, Manuel Zelaya. La administración Obama
no expresó su oposición contra estos abusos y ha reconocido las elecciones.

Hemos presenciado así la inauguración de un nuevo modelo: Detener a la
izquierda y reemplazarla con la oligarquía. Se han llevado a cabo las
elecciones, y sin importar bajo que condiciones, los Estados Unidos seguirá
apoyando al gobierno surgido de la farsa electoral. Esto es un engaño a la
soberanía de Latino América. Estados Unidos está probándole al mundo que,
aun bajo la administración de Obama, tambien se apoyarán los golpes de
estado militares y las brutalidades máximas, si estas son parciales a los
intereses de los Estados Unidos.

Noam Chomsky, profesor, veterano comentarista de asuntos Latinoamericanos,
hablará sobre el golpe de estado en Honduras y lo que esto significa para
todo el hemisferio.

Alternativamente, desde la entrada principal de MIT en el 77 Massachusetts
