Friends, HI from a tense Tegucigalpa. I with a group of US human rights
observers and we are holding a press conference this afternoon at 3 p.m. to
call on our govt to not recognize these elections.  HOnduras time, 4 p.m.

* U.S.HUMAN RIGHTS OBSERVERS IN HONDURAS *



 U.S. Human rights observers from a dozen different organizations around the
United States have been in Honduras for several days to observe the human
rights environment in Honduras at this time of elections.


 Some 20 U.S. Citizens have traveled throughout Honduras over the past 3
days to cities and communities such as Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Tocoa,
Santa Rosa de Copán, Choluteca, Comayagua, Siguatepeque y Puerto Grande. In
addition, they have visited police stations, hospitals and jails.


 In each of these communities they have observed the sistematic abuse of
human rights as evidenced by raids, detentions, threats, physical abuse,
indimidation and persecution on the part of state security agents. These
actions have been mostly directed against citizens identified with the
Resistance movement.

 These findings and concerns will be shared at a:

 Observadores estadounidenses provientes de una decena de organizaciones de
derechos humanos de los Estados Unidos se encuentran en los ùltimos días
para observar el clima de derechos humanos en que se encuentre Honduras en
los días antes y durante el llamado proceso electoral.


 Más de 20 estadounidenses se han desplazado en los últimos 3 días a
ciudades y comunidades como Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Tocoa, Santa Rosa
de Copán, Choluteca, Comayagua, Siguatepeque y Puerto Grande. Además, han
visitado puestos policiales, hospitales, y cárceles.


 En todos estas comunidades se ha observado situaciones graves de abusos
sistematicos de derechos humanos tales como allanamientos , detenciones,
amenazas, maltrato físico, indimidaciones y persecuciones. Estas acciones
han sido dirigidas especialmente a personas identificadas con la
Resistencia.
