[HNA] Requesting Solidarity from Supporters of Honduras Resistance

Dear compas,

Mindful of the desires of keeping the focus of this list on Honduras related events, I am sending a request of support from those who oppose the murderous policies of the Colombian government against its own people and its detrimental policies towards the rest of the peoples of Latin America, including Honduras.

The note explains the request for solidarity here in Boston, and it also indicates Proyecto Hondureno and the Committee in Solidarity with the Honduran Resistance as endorsers of the protests against the presence of Alvaro Uribe in Boston.

A CALL TO ENDORSE PROTESTS AGAINST COLOMBIAN PRESIDENT'S ALVARO URIBE  VISIT TO BOSTON 

(Organizing meeting: Fri. 9/18/09 6pm - 33 Harrison Av. Boston)

The President of Colombia Alvaro Uribe will visit Boston next week and  will be speaking at Harvard's David Rockefeller Center for Latin American  Studies and also at the Institute of Politics. This shouldn't surprise  anybody because after all it is the likes of Uribe who are formed at  Harvard. What is surprising is that Uribe has the arrogance to appear in  public in one of the largest Latino community, East Boston. On Saturday,  September 26, Uribe is planning to speak between 9am to 12 noon at East  Boston High School.

Uribe is responsible for crimes against humanity in Colombia such as the  forced displacement of peasants from their land to allow corporations to  settle there instead. In the process paramilitary thugs have killed  hundreds of people, with total impunity. Likewise, dozens of union leaders  have been assassinated and there are hundreds of political prisoners.  However, the United States have consistently supported him with funds and  military personnel and equipment. Let's only remember Plan Colombia which  channeled millions of dollars to support repression and displacement of  innocent people. Now, under the leadership of President Barack Obama will  install additional military bases in Colombia. The majority of countries  in Latin America reject the U.S. military proliferation in their continent  through Colombia.

We call upon you and your organization to denounce and protest the  presence of Uribe in Boston, and in particular in our own communities.

We are calling on an emergency meeting this coming Friday, September 18,  at 6pm, 33 Harrison Avenue, Fifth Floor to coordinate the demonstrations  against Uribe. Please plan to attend.

If your organization agrees to endorse these protests please let us know  ASAP to include it in the leaflets and announcements.

Some of the organizations we are consulting that have preliminarily agreed  to support these events are the Bolivarian circle of Boston, Mass. Global  Action, Boston May Day Committee, Colombia Vive, Chelsea Uniting Against  the War, Stop the Wars Coalition, Committee in Solidarity with the  Honduran Resistance, Proyecto Hondureno, and many others.

No more political prisoners!  No more displacements!  No more political assassinations!  No more repression, persecution and murder of union leaders!  No more violation of human rights!

LLAMADO A ENDORSAR PROTESTAS CONTRA LA VISITA DEL PRESIDENTE DE COLOMBIA  ALVARO URIBE A BOSTON

El Presidente de Colombia Alvaro Uribe visitará Boston la próxima semana y  se presentará en el Centro para Estudios Latinoamericanos David  Rockefeller de Harvard. Esto no debería sorprender a nadie porque después  de todo son personajes como Uribe los que la Universidad de Harvard forma.  Lo que si sorprende es que Uribe tenga la arrogancia de aparecer en  público en una de las comunidades latinas mas grandes en el área, East  Boston. El sábado, 26 de septiembre, Uribe tiene planeado hacer una  presentación en la Escuela Superior de East Boston entre las 9am y las 12.

Uribe es responsable por crímenes contra la humanidad en Colombia tales  como el desplazamiento forzado de campesinos de sus tierras para permitir  que se instalen corporaciones allí. En este proceso, criminales  paramilitares han asesinado a cientos de personas con total impunidad. De  igual manera, decenas de líderes sindicales han sido asesinados y hay  cientos de presos políticos. Sin embargo, los Estados Unidos han  consistentemente apoyado a los gobiernos colombianos con fondos, equipo y  personal militar. Recordemos solamente el maldito Plan Colombia que  significó el envío de millones de dólares para apoyar la represión y el  desplazamiento de gente inocente. Ahora, bajo el liderato del Presidente  Barack Obama los EE.UU. instalarán aun más bases militares en Colombia. La  mayoría de los países latinoamericanos rechazan la proliferación militar  de los EE.UU. por medio de Colombia en su continente.

Nosotros le hacemos un llamado a Usted y a su organización para que  denuncie y proteste la presencia de Uribe en Boston, y muy en particular  en nuestras propias comunidades.

Por eso llamamos a una reunión de emergencia para este viernes, Septiembre  18, a las 6pm, 33 Harrison Avenue, 5to. Piso, Boston, para coordinar las  demostraciones contra Uribe. Por favor asista a esta reunión.

Si su organización endorsa estas protestas por favor infórmenos tan pronto  sea posible para incluir su información en los boletines y anuncios.

Algunas de las organizaciones que ya hemos consultado y que apoyan  preliminarmente estos actos son el Círculo Bolivariano de Boston, Acción  Global de Massachusetts, el Comité Primero de Mayo de Boston, Colombia  Vive, Chelsea Uniéndose Contra la Guerra, la Coalición para Frenar las  Guerras, el Comité de Solidaridad con la Resistencia Hondureña, el  Proyecto Hondureño, y muchas otras.

¡No más presos políticos!  ¡No más desplazados!  ¡No más asesinatos políticos!  ¡No más represión, persecución y muerte de líderes sindicales!  ¡No más violaciones de los derechos humanos!
