I told her that I was calling as an individual from the United States, member of a human rights solidarity group with Honduras, and expressed my deep concern for the military presence in Aguan. I said I was particularly worried about the 600 families in Guadalupe Carney who are surrounded by the military (see FIAN´s most recent report below. I also just got reports about threats to cooperativa El Remolino.)<br><br>She said that the military mobilization is to "combat crime" in the area and the "illegal
market of weapons", that Pepe Lobo is focused on continuing the dialogue with the MUCA and his government has a scheduled meeting with them for tomorrow. I told her that I really
hoped so because I was worried about the children, women and elderly who live in the area. That I hoped he was trying to find a peaceful solution to the problem.<br><br>I highly recommend other Spanish-speakers to follow suit and be very respectful but strong in your demands. organizaciones de
derechos humanos y otras preocupadas por el desarrollo del país y el
imperio de
la paz, comandos fuertemente armados del ejército pertenecientes a la
Fuerza Naval
están cercando la comunidad Guadalupe Carney.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES">Los pobladores de esa comunidad con frecuencia han sufrido el
acoso
permanente de los terratenientes que ilegalmente se posesionaron de las
tierras
que ahora ocupan los miembros del Movimiento Campesino del Aguán (MCA),
con
resultados lamentables de heridos y muertos. Ahora los terratenientes
han
decidido tomar militarmente esa comunidad por dos razones visibles: </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES">Una, el 6 de abril recién pasado, el MCA tomó 800 hectáreas
que Miguel
Facussé cultivó arbitrariamente con palma africana hace cinco años. Los
campesinos afiliados a esta organización aseguran que esas tierras son
parte de
la extensión que ocupaba el Centro Regional de Entrenamiento Militar
(CREM) que
el INA comenzó a expropiar en octubre del 2000 a terratenientes que
ilegalmente
las “compraron” para adjudicárselas a las más de 600 familias que
conforman esa
organización campesina.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES">La otra, el MCA ha apoyado a sus compañeros del Movimiento
Unificado Campesino
del Aguán (MUCA) con los pocos recursos con que cuenta esa comunidad y
dando
asilo a aquellos dirigentes de esta organización sobre los cuales pesan
amenazas de muerte.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-right: 30.8pt; text-align: justify;"><span lang="ES">Alertamos a la opinión pública nacional e internacional a
mantenerse
atento a los acontecimientos violentos que puedan acaecer en esa
comunidad y en
el resto del Valle del Aguán.</span></p>
