| Dear Sergio,

SOA Watch stands with the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH), an Indigenous Lenca organization made up of 200 Lenca communities in Honduras. COPINH has issued a call for protests at Honduran embassies and consulates around the world on June 15, 2016, to demand justice for Berta Cáceres (see the Call to Action below).

Our dear friend Berta, a co-founder and coordinator of COPINH, was assassinated in March 2016. Several of those charged for Berta's murder have ties to the Honduran military, including Active Major Mariano Diaz Chavez, who is reported to have been trained by the U.S. Rangers in an elite course for Jungle and Nocturnal Operations. The case of Berta's assassination illustrates that the U.S. continues to support military and economic policies that are forcing people to flee their country. In our work for justice in the Americas, SOA Watch is shining a light on the connections between forced migration and U.S. intervention in the Americas. Mobilize your community for the October 7-10, 2016 SOA Watch Convergence at the Border in Nogales, Arizona/ Sonora.

If you are planning a protest in your city, or if you are putting up posters of Berta Cáceres on June 15, 2016, as part of the Global Day of Action that COPINH is calling for, please let us know by email at hvoss@ soaw.org or call 202-234-3440.
 peace and struggle, Hendrik Voss
 SOA Watch

P.S. SOA Watch Latin America Liaison Brigitte Gynther accompanied COPINH on a delegation to Europe, where they met with banks who are financiang the dam project that Berta Cáceres was murdered for trying to stop. Great news: Dutch FMO Development Bank announced it is seeking to exit the Agua Zarca mega-dam project in Honduras.
To all organizations, social and popular movements and to the civil society of the world:

The death of Berta Cáceres has filled us with indignation. We carry the pain with us, but we also carry the strength of her thought, her work, and the longing for justice. The principles that she fought for are what will save humanity, which is why we call on you to participate in a worldwide protest that will bring all of our voices together to demand justice for Berta Cáceres, justice for Gustavo Castro, justice for COPINH and justice for the people of Honduras.

On June 15 in Honduras organizations and social movements, institutions, ordinary people will march to demand the immediate establishment of an independent research group that, in a transparent, thorough and comprehensive way, investigate the murder of our sister and companion.

On that day we would like our sisters and brothers from other countries in the world to join us by carrying out protest actions in front of the Honduran embassies of your respective countries to demand the following:

 1. The immediate establishment of an independent research group led by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to clarify this vile crime and ensure the prosecution of all those responsible.

 2. The immediate and definitive cancellation of the concession granted to DESA company, constructor of the Hydroelectric Project "Agua Zarca" in Rio Blanco.

The actions carried out by the Honduran state and its organizations are insufficient and are not aimed at achieving justice. On the contrary, they are assuring that this crime will go unpunished.
Let's join together and put an stop to death, impunity and injustice.

With the ancestral force of Berta, Lempira, Mota, Etempica and Iselaca
we raise our voices full of justice, freedom, dignity and peace!
Justice for Berta is justice for the world!
Let us Wake up, humanity, we are out of time!
