ELIZAM ESCOBAR needs our support. On 4 April 1980, Escobar was among eleven FALN members arrested by the FBI in Evanston, Illinois, under the suspicion of plotting to bomb Federal installations. They were charged with seditious conspiracy and related charges. During and after the trail he maintained his position that he and the others were prisoners of war. Escobar was sentenced to a prison term of 68 years which was to be served in the federal prison of El Reno, Oklahoma. On 7 September 1999, Escobar and the ten other prisoners who were arrested with him were granted clemency by President Bill Clinton. Escobar returned to Puerto Rico immediately upon his release and continued his activist and cultural work as a distinguished painter.
Now, his health is in danger and he needs our support. We received this note from our friend Gilberto Diaz from Puerto Rico. Please read and take action. Any questions locally don't hesitate to call on me. Thanks! Sergio Reyes.

 Friends of Elizam Escobar,
Our friend, patriot, ex political prisoner and prisoner of war, who spent about 20 years in prison for his struggle to gain independence for our country, Puerto Rico, Elizam Escobar, confronts now health challenges which require our support and solidarity. Elizam was operated from a tumor that requires aggressive treatment. Post operation, Elizam will also try non-traditional and holistic treament.
The friends of Elizam have organized a campaign to collect the funds that will be needed to pay for expensive alternative treatment, which is not covered by his health care insurance. These expenses include: holistic cancer doctor services, equipment for purification of water, organic food diet, and natural supplements to maintain his body balance and to prevent the spreading of the sickness. These alternative treatments must be applied daily and without a definite limit of time, this will require raising significant funding. This is why we have not set a limit in time or in funds for this campaign, although we know that it will take many months.
Our suggestion is to start with a contribution of $50 per person. Those individual or organizations that can and want to contribute more are welcome. Likewise, those who want to contribute but cannot do what we suggest, please contribute according to your possibilities. Another way to contribute is to become a monthly donor.
If you feel you want and can contribute to our brother Elizam's health, send your contribution to the following address: 1792, Calle Glasgow, College Park, San Juan, PR 00921. You can also make a direct deposit to the order of “Amigos de Elizam Escobar”, account 229-337562, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico.
Elizam is in a good mood and with his usual desire to struggle on. We think that he will get better. If you want to receive information about Elizam's health or send him a message of encouragement and solidarity you can email amigosdelizamescobar at gmail.com.
We request your cooperation and solidarity as an act of love to support our comrade in the struggle, who has given so much of himself.
